Freezer Temperatures?

I see that the recommended freezer temperature is 0 degrees for keeping food safely frozen but understanding that freezers on boats might not be able to do this (power, insulation, etc) I was wondering what real world freezer temperatures people have been using with success. Thanks

Re: Freezer Temperatures?

We kept ours at 10* F. Never a problem.

Re: Freezer Temperatures?

For every five degrees Fahrenheit above zero, the recommended maximum freezer storage time is cut in half.

Good point, but even on a long passage how long are you really freezing food for? I can't imagine that even at 10 or 15 deg F that food would be there long enough to go bad. I could be wrong though everybody does things differently

heres the "star rating"

[∗] : min temperature = −6 C (21 F). Maximum storage time for (pre-frozen) food is 1 week
[∗∗] : min temperature = −12 C (10 F). Maximum storage time for (pre-frozen) food is 1 month
[∗∗∗] : min temperature = −18 C (−0 F). Maximum storage time for (pre-frozen) food is between 3 and 12 months depending on type (meat, vegetables, fish, etc.)
[∗∗∗∗] : min temperature = −18 C (−0 F). Maximum storage time for pre-frozen or frozen-from-fresh food is between 3 and 12 months
