Force Ten Oven Burner

After five seasons of heavy use our Force ten oven had a hard time getting up to 325 degrees the other day. Took an hour and a half to cook a roast and it wasn't as brown on the top as it should have been. Also the potatoes didn't brown. Time to clean the orifice. Instructions were online at their site. Seemed very simple, unscrew the burner off the back, rotate 180 degrees, remove orifice with 7mm socket.

Got the burner off the back, impossible to put a socket on the orifice, there's about a 3/4" gap between the orifice and the burner. Managed to get it off with a little 7mm wrench. Not too difficult. The difficult part was putting the orifice back in after cleaning with alcohol. The gap is so small you can't hardly get your fingers in and when you can you can't hold the orifice and start threading it. Anyway one and a half hours later and a pair of tweezers got the orifice threaded. Oven works fine, 10 minutes and the oven was up to 350 degrees and it's really cold here in Florida- low forties! And thirties forecast for tonight.

Some time back I found a website that sold replacement parts for the Force 10 out of south Cal. just do a goggle search for that.

A trick I learned when starting nuts in hard to reach places.
Wrap a wire around the outside of the nut 2 or 3 times. ( I used stainless saftey wire). The wire will hold the nut. Position the nut over the bolt use a screw driver to apply a light pressure, pushing the nut against the end of the bolt. Pull on the end of the saftey wire. The nut will turn enough to catch a thread.(providing you wrapped it in the right direction.) Some times it takes a couple of tries.

This would probably also work on an orifice.

I tried to put a piece of tape inside the socket to hold the orifice, I use a 1/4" drive and it barely fits in the hole. But still a PITA!!!
I finally got an acetylene cutting torch tip cleaning tool, small round files, now I can clean it without removal of orifice

The burner orifice can be cleaned in place with a tip cleaner. You can get them at a welding equipment supplier for a few bucks.

Force Ten says not to put anything in the orifice. I used to use a dental pick but now I remove them and soak in alcohol as they recommend.
