The Backstreet in Beaufort doesn't open til Noon. It's a click or two nicer than you're seeking. Boaty was only allowed in because he talks funny. However, if you can drink bilge beers til 9 a.m., the Royal James is open. Breakfast and burgers, the James is that lower echelon joint you seek where sailors are the only early customers M-F. Across the street, the Cru Wine bar opens at 7 with both coffee and beer but is too toney for you.

The Tradewinds had a great rep for available women in the evenings but the town has lost it cachet for real cruisers due to restrictive anchoring issues. The bartender stole $5 off the bar while I went to the head, the one time I was there.

In Beaufort, you can leave yer Iphone and wallet in any bar and expect to get 'em back in the morning.

In Key Largo, it's the Depot. Islamorada has my fav, the Safari Lounge, good spot in the afternoon. Marathon has the Monkey Bar. Things are all more gentrified day by day. Southport Raw Bar in Ft Lauderdale. Just about the only place a cruiser can get ashore from the Lake Sylvia anchorage. Sure they charge $10, but it's redeemable against any purchase. Any excuse for a beer...

The bar under the bridge in Vero Beach isn't too bad despite the usual "canoe beer".

International Yacht and Athletic Club in Newport, RI. Small, dusty little bar with a pool table. Guinness on tap. Real sailor ownership, bartenders and patrons. Dogs (and sailors) allowed.

+1. There's a great little fish 'n chips window around back. Better than the pub food.

Back to the subject, Murphy's Tavern on St. Simons Is., Ga. Bad part is you need wheels (at least a bicycle) from the nearest marina, but it's worth it.

Hey Blue... Could not remember the name of the Royal James (breakfast) or the café over the road for coffee before the mooch up to the library for some internet.. then back down to the Backstreet for lunch... They must have gone upmarket since I left... no more marines up chucking in the plant pots any more...?

Oh... and I'll second the marina restaurant/bar at Fort Pierce.. S of the small opening bridge.. good grub/beer/fun staff..

The Bridge Tender in Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island....good food, prices and you can keep an eye on your boat the whole time.

Is this on that canal next the west end of the Card Sound Bridge on the Dade-Monroe County Line? I've thought of poking up there, but I don't find any depth data. Do they have a dinghy dock?

You got it capt. force. They have a dock that usually has space. The last time I was there they had great conch chowder and all their food was freshly made. They usually have bands Sat. and Sun. afternoons. Real eclectic mix when the bands play. Old time cloggers mixed with bikers boaters and fishermen and ultra rich from ocean reef. Everybody always gets along though.

Well in Morehead city, NC there's The Ruddy Duck, my favorite tavern in Morehead, and it's got an awesome Fried Flounder Ruben.
