Re: Favorite Cocktail

@bruce smith: I've always understood that to be a 'rum coco.' Wish I were somewhere I could get green coconuts all the time but I have to make do with absinthe

Re: Favorite Cocktail

I've eaten prickly pear parts but wouldn't have thought you'd get much juice out of the fruit.

Cactus juice. That I can relate to.

Truth is, after any activity that leaves us dehydrated and before tucking in to a sundowner, we all should drink a good dose of water. The fruit would help replace vitamins and minerals. Get some rehydration done before drinking a diuretic.

Re: Favorite Cocktail

omg--common sense on a forum..ima gonna die now.......

hydration is a big problem with long distance sailors. is very important to rehydrate constantly while underway and upon arrival, as well. if not drinking a gallon of WATER daily as well as your favorite drinkie, ye will become ill and not know why. lethargy, confusion, achiness--only as beginning of the list of ills.

so, as ye make up your favorite concoction, make sure ye drink one of those to 2 big glasses water.....

Re: Favorite Cocktail

Any drinks with caffeine and alcoholic drinks will have a tendency to dehydrate; how much water one needs depends largely on temperatures and activity levels. Sweetened drinks tend to have to high a level of carbohydrates and too little sodium to replace that lost in perspiration in hot weather. One can use a tablespoon of vinegar in a large glass of water to help maintain electrolytes in body or one can drink one of the sports drinks available.

Two drinks of choice...
The old standby: whiskey sour with 2 ice cubes or
Margaritta: 1 shot of brandy, 1 shot of grand marnier, 2 shots of tequilla. ..fill the glass up with sweet and sour and ice... This will get those blurry, glazed and joyfull guests confessing their love to anyone who will listen!

Re: Favorite Cocktail

Any drink with salt is good. I usually add salt to beer on a really hot day (so I get lots of salt ). And at night, half teaspoon of salt just savoured and swallowed keeps the cramps away.
