Re: Favorite cocktail

Hey Tartan sail,

That's a mean margarita - I use the 1,2,3 method

1 part triple sec, 2 parts lime juice, 3 parts tequila. As Capn billl says - guaranteed to chat their knickers off - even if you don't say a word

Yes! That's a real Margarita. Almost impossible to get in bars, I'm afraid, where they give you some ghastly Koolaid made from Whiskey Sour mix, and call it a Margarita

Re: Favorite cocktail

Hi Dockhead

Only problem with the 1,2,3 method is it requires you to be able to count - which can get tricky after consuming the first pitcher or two. On the other hand - at that point - who cares?

Ain't that the truth! Worst thing I saw was a woman down the bar orders a Patron margarita. Why on earth waste delicious sipping tequila on anything that gets diluted? But, that sin was mild compared to the bartender who pours that vile lime koolaid into the mix. I almost had to leave the bar just so I wouldn't have to watch.

I always have a bottle of Lagavulin on board since I enjoy a cigar and a glass of whiskey of an evening. I've been known to offer a glass to a guest. I've also been known to withdraw the offer when said guest asks for ice or a mixer.

Re: Favorite cocktail

Not big on mixed drinks but, I do like a good Tequila sunrise with fresh OJ and Pom juice (instead of grenadine).

Rum mixed with just about anything is always good...

Right now I'm on my second batch of Cranberry Wine (inmate style brew!). It's quickly becoming my favorite. It's in the neighborhood of 20% alcohol but tastes like a wine cooler Very refreshing on these 90+ degree nights, and it's dangerous since it goes down so easily Made a gallon this time for about $4.

Re: Favorite cocktail

Dark rum and water, ice and wedge of lime sometimes but not strictly necessary.

Our internationally famous rum punch is called "Joy Juice" - not designed to remove any knickers, but to SPREAD THE JOY. (Our boat is s/v More Joy Everywhere. Yes, sometimes the irony gets pretty thick.)

The Joy Juice recipe is super top secret. Just kidding. Take a two quart pitcher. Add one quart of juice. Like mango, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and/or papaya, and include a dash of grenadine -pretty color. One quart alcohol. Various rums (coconut, mango, dark, spiced - but I NEVER use bacardi paint thinner), vodka (maybe flavored), and a few splashes of amaretto, and/or other liquors that might be yummy, like chambord or grand marnier. Serve with a bit of ginger ale, club soda, or sprite for the wimps who can't take it straight up : ) ----

2,3 or maybe 4 fingers of Jack Daniels ideally from a chilled bottle, shaken of ice, or add 1-2 small cubes of ice. Not too much ice or the flavor is lost! Tastes good in Waterford crystal or a tin cup.

If I've been diving, a Dry Sack.
If not, a Tangueray and Tonic. (Without fruit!)
