Re: Excel Food Provisioning List

find local farmers markets to get fresh organic veggies, eggs, pastry's, canned food, etc
do you fish or crab that is a great way to eat healthy.
We have an ice box and a alcohol stove, we just added extra insulation to the ice box, amazing how much cooler it is.
Dried fruits are great in sandwiches, men love sammys.
a small wrought iron pan can act as an oven with a lid
When you go into town, ask your deli, seafood and meat person from the grocery store to put your meat in the deep freezer do you shopping and pick up your shrimp, meat, etc frozen. We have a Styrofoam shipping container that we put meats in the ice box, separate the meat as to servings.
Most of all dont ask your man what he would like just make it look good and he will eat it

Dogs are the best, they love to be feed, caressed, played with, praised, and sleep

BlackOak, check out this link http://www.bethandevans.com/pdf/Livingwithoutrefrigeration.pdf
and Janet Groenes "Cooking On The Go", a handy cookbook I have used for many years. Refrigeration is hardly a necessity, but it can be more challenging keeping fresh food in the south than in more temperate areas. Both the above authors are forum members and have interesting websites.

Thanks for the start on keeping record of food on board

Costco has some tasty canned meats. Try the beef with some fresh carrots, onions and potatoes (all keep pretty well without a fridge). Makes a great stew, good over rice or noodles. With the chicken and same veg add curry powder canned coconut milk and .spices and you've got curry. Serve over rice. Canned meat is also tasty in your instant ramen.

pirate Re: Excel Food Provisioning List

Hi Erin....that would be a great list for my kitchen, but a little much for a functional cruising galley... Real life teaches us that we really do not need as much as our brains think that we do...maybe 2 or 3 items from each heading would do fine...very complete list, though! Have you been cruising before? Unless you have an 80 foot yacht, you will discover that heavy seas and short storage space will negate most of your items...."Care and Feeding of the Offshore Crew" is an excellent book to use as a guideline. By all means, though, take a good long cruise and then review your list. Perhaps you really do need all those items...good cruising to you!
