Eutectic fridge not cooling

Hi,

We have just bought this boat & it has an old Eutectic ice box/freezer compartment & fridge. The freezer section gets cold although it takes a couple of days to ice up but the fridge compartment doesn't cool down.

Just wandering if there is anyone out there who has had experience with this type of problem. Hubby is a fridge mechanic but this is our first experience with Eutectic technoogy

Eutectic fridge not cooling

Do you know the make of the fridge? I have a Eutectic fridge from Ozefridge in Melbourne. They have been very helpful sorting out some problems. They seem to understand the technology very well so it might be worth giving them a call even if it's not one of their fridges.

Re: Eutectic fridge not cooling

Hi Latitude,
Start up on a holding plate system definitely takes a bit longer than a thin rolled plate evaporation plate since you have to freeze down the Eutectic solution, but if you have given it 24hrs you should be in the normal cycling mode by that time for a classic spill over system.

We can assume that your compressor is running because the plate is cooling down, so as someone who builds and troubleshoots these type of systems every day, my first thought is to suspect the system is low on refrigerant.....but to help figure this out, we need more info or we would just be stabbing in the dark.

Can you give us the brand of system?

Next, does the system have a sight glass to access the state of charge?

In the event it is a Technautics CoolBlue system, here is a link to download a manual and I'm available off line to help via email at Rich@cruiserowater.com

Re: Eutectic fridge not cooling

As noted, some more info would help.

Also, some systems are set up such that the fridge only cools when there's demand, and there is a separate solenoid and valve for it. Could have failed. If it's a Grunnert system, let me know. The valve and solenoid from Grunnert/Dometic is $275, and I got it for about $35.
