Engel Refrigerator

Has anyone seen here have personal experience with Engel Refrigerators.
I am planning to install a front loading unit in my sailboat. Due to space I plan to use part of a cloths locker (closet) to install it in. The locker is next to our vee birth and I wouldn't want the noise from the compressor to be too loud
So any direct experience as to how loud this refrigerator is
Thanks

Re: Engel Refrigerator

Well Bill, I don't have one, but there sure seems to be a cult following. I'm considering a smaller, portable one myself.
They are pricey though.
People will check in soon, the swing compressor is interesting.

Re: Engel Refrigerator

I had a top loader model (35?) on my former boat. I used it as a freezer. The temperature settings permitted its use as a freezer or refrigerator depending on setting. Worked on both 12V and 120V. Ran flawlessly. It hummed a bit but it was not at all loud. Kept ice cream frozen.

Re: Engel Refrigerator

We have one of the largest (130 qt?) Engel top loaders built in under one of the lower settee benches. It is our freezer.

If you are below and everything is silent, you can hear it start up and the small him during operation.

That settee area converts to a double berth and guests when warned their pillow is directly above the freezer report they hardly notice it at first, and not at all after the first night's rest...

Thinking of your front loader, we are considering replacing a very old front loading Norcold (which still works flawlessly but is an amp-eater...) We will end up with less refrigerated space, but will gain a deep drawer out of the deal.

Therefore, if you go this route, please report back with your experience and impression of the unit.

Cheers!

Bill

Re: Engel Refrigerator

My Engle 38ltr developed an annoyingly loud vibration in its first year. Much louder than a domestic fridge freezer. I have to turn it off at night. Maybe I got a dud... Sent it in for a check under warranty, but they said that it was within specs (just!). Maybe the wayco's are quieter? Not impressed.

Re: Engel Refrigerator

I have one. It's not very loud (but that's all subjective, right?) but it does vibrate a bit.
