I was watching a male and a female Starling today. The male finds a worm and feeds to the female. Starlings are something I used to shoot for nesting in my aircraft hangar, they crap on everything. Now I feel all sappy about that. So this brings me to thinking about catching just 1 Mahi Mahi. Are there any emotions in a fish?, or am I just being"sappy"?

Often you'll see the mahi's mate come to the surface when you reel one in. I get a little sad when I see the mate eventually swim away. But people have to eat.

A pair of starlings nest on my carport every year for 20-25 years. Repair the old nest and lay eggs. Four eggs...four chicks. Every year. The chicks hatch quickly and have to be fed for weeks before they are ready to fly. No room in the nest for the parents after the chicks hatch so they roost on a narrow ledge by the nest. Feed those chicks all day. Sortie after sortie to find food and return. After about 3-4 weeks the chicks are ready to fly. They spend a week or two flying with the chicks and then the chicks go off on their own. Parents and chicks return to the carport each night...parents to the ledge and chicks to the nest.

Three years ago a major storm blew through the day the chicks took their first flight. Only three chicks returned to the nest that night. The parents checked the nest and seemed to be counting heads. Both flew out into the night. Again and again they would fly out into the darkness and wind and rain and return to check the nest to count heads...then fly out again. They did this all night. And the next night. And the next. The prodigal chick never did show up but those parents were unceasing in their search for that lost chick.

Those birds make a heckuva mess on my carport but I can't bring myself to chase them away.

One year long ago, Starlings used the open end of my boom for a nest.
I didn't realize the nest was deep inside until after they had left, and had problems reefing.
I had no problems at all putting a hunk of stiff packing foam in the end of the boom after that.

You should have no problems catching 1 Mahi Mahi, 2 would be better just in case

Fish have mates? I don't think so.
Frequently when you catch one dolphin one or more others will come to see what the fuss is about. If we want more fish we leave the first one in the water for a minute or two to catch some of the curious newcomers.

I fail to see why you, or anyone, need to fish unfarmed fish at all.

Some macho crap in denuding the worlds resources?

You don't eat wild meat, do you? All the meat modern people eat is farmed. We are not knocking over giraffes for food, we eat cows bread for it.

My thoughts are to totally ban fishing of any unfarmed fish.

That includes locals who think they can pillage their Caribbean islands of Conch... The only thing that can battle against algy that's destroyed the Caribbean coral. Same goes for Australians who continue to torture and eat dugong and turtles.

Leave the Mahi Mahi to their mates.

Mahi Mahi do not have mates and are not even remotely considered threatened. They reproduce like rabbits and have no real commercial fishery. Farmed fish are not exactly good for the environment or for humans.

Please send me to the best store to buy farmed mahi.

Geez, you want the kid with the cane pole catching bluegills in the local pond to worry?

There is no logical line connecting catching wild mahi with hunting giraffes, dugong or any of your other examples. Make that connection with whales or bluefin tuna or toothfish at will, but not with a fish like a mahi.

Again, mahi's do not have mates. They spawn in schools with males and females all releasing their gametes together and at random.

Well, I eat tons of wild meat. I live in Montana and everyone of my friends is a hunter. I am not. Anywho. Most of them just want the head for a trophy which is a shame and the rest they give away. It is against the law to sell wild game so there is lots of free meat if you have friends. I have elk and deer steaks, burgers, and sausage regularly like every week. I had maple flavored elk sausage yesterday morning. Yum. Still more in the fridge. Want some? Well I guess I'm goin' to hell too when Bambi's mom is the pearly gate keeper. Oh wait, I'm an atheist. I guess I'll just hang out with Colemj.
