+1 Isn't that why many enjoy boating. You have a lot of people drooling for a feed of fish now.

The other mahi is just another fish. Since the meme is that they travel with mates, people tend to remember them in male/female pairs and forget them when not - it supports their belief system. I have often caught two of the same sex hanging together. How do you know there are no others around? Because you don't see them from the surface?

I disagree. Sushi tastes MUCH better when the fish is put on a cold plate for a few hours (or even a full day) before making sushi. It firms the flesh and allows the fat to form. You would never see a sushi restaurant serving fish that hadn't been similarly prepared for sushi.

Will only eat a fish no bigger than one to three pounds. In MY BOOK, nothing beats groupers, red snappers, sockeye salmon or smoked herrings; life is simple, huh! This rule does not apply if shipwrecked or starving! Mauritz

Smaller dolphin travel in schools. Hence the name schoolies(5-15lb) Under the school many times are larger dolphin. Catch a 5 pounder then drop it down 50' or so and wait for a big bull to have his kid for lunch. As they get larger 20 lbs.> Many times they travel in small groups usually 1 bull and 1-4 cows. why they do this I don't know unless it aids in hunting.

They eat their kids? Well so much for any concern I may have had.

Yep. I have cleaned bigger ones that have a decent size schoolie in the belly and they still hit a lure.

A 1-3lb grouper, red snapper or salmon is a baby one. Maybe the snapper has reached adulthood and maybe the grouper is a red hind or coney - but other than that, those fish are much larger average size when adult.

Re: Eating 1 of 2 Mahi Mahi

Having spent year commercial salmon fishing, I felt I was something of an authority on how salmon taste and could even tell whether I was eating red or white king, coho, sockeye or dog salmon. When my son who worked on one of the early fish farms on Saltspring Island in the PNW fed me a coho he had raised, I couldn't tell the difference from a wild coho. Perhaps the raising methods of today have changed the fish in taste and consistency but back in the 80's, it was all the same. Phil

As a fish gets bigger, metal residues are stored in their fatty tissues; that's why the 1-3 lbs preference. (Mercury is found in huge tuna, yet still people eat it.) Mauritz

Re: Eating 1 of 2 Mahi Mahi

No debate on that point here. I was just pointing out that the size range you list covers mostly juveniles and may not be legal size in some places.
