Dutch Ovens

I have read in other forums that Dutch Ovens are "a must" for the galley, yet for all the fine chefs on board here, none mentions using them.....

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on these?

Dutch Ovens are great for “shore party” cooking over campfire coals, but I wouldn’t use one very often on a galley stove-top.

I reckon the closest most of us get to a dutch oven onboard is the pressure cooker.

However I do know a number of people who rave about the Cobb BBQ (which I suppose is really a type of dutch oven )

Dutch ovens are also very heavy because they are large
and made out of cast iron. Cowboy cooks and car campers
use them a great deal
