Costs

Hello, Planning a trip for about three weeks with no stops and four people as crew, I am just wondering the best way to do this and how other people handle this, the provisioning bill will be a little expensive so is it usual to ask people who are crewing to 'chip in' a little to help out with necessities or is the burden completely on the owner,

Re: Costs

I can only speak for myself: If someone invites me for a trip on their boat I'm happy to pay a share of expenses.

Re: Costs

If it is a fun trip with friends, I expect them to share the costs.

If it is a delivery, I pay all the costs.

That's it. If it's for fun, everybody chips in. If its a job, then not.

Some skippers do an accurate account and precise calculation of shares; others just let the gang take turns paying for things. Some are more generous than others; that's cool too.

Re: Costs

If I ask them because I need the crew numbers, all costs are covered.

If I throw an open invitation to come along and they invite themselves, I expect them to chip in.

So I've often had both types on the same trip.

(This includes who pays for the air fare on a one way delivery)

Re: Costs

I cover all boat expenses, crew pays a share of provisioning. If it is only a short trip, I don't even mention it - usually is only $10-$20 pp pday.
