That is a very beautiful bit of kit. I don't know if it makes good coffee or not, and I am ashamed to say, I don't really care. I love it.

Re: Coffee maker...

Yes I got excited about it too and just spent an hour or so doing some research
on it.Sounds like the early versions had some material quality issues but V2 much improved.
On EBay at $195 Aud think I'll buy my wife one for her birthday at the end of the month cause she knows how much I love a good espresso.

Nope just a scientist. My son's a programmer (he just love his code work), but he doesn't seem to be hit by the coffee bug that was handed down to me by my mother. My mom got me hooked on coffee when I was 14, haven't had a good day without a cup of coffee since!

Re: Coffee maker...

How do you know you're a coffee addict?

When you go back country camping your first consideration is planning your coffee requirements.

When you spend a long weekend at your brother's place with a constant dull headache, then on day three go out to lunch and have a cup of coffee and BANG! You realize he's been feeding you brewed decaf.

When you investigate buying a boat and going on passages the ability to brew a decent cup of coffee is about as important as... well, does the boat float?

When you redesign the boat electrical system to run the inverter you bought to run the coffee machine you bought for the boat.

I guess that on the equator they take their coffee shaken not stirred.

Re: Coffee maker...

Well I got my ROK today

After my third shot I'm starting to get some good crema. I'll need to adjust the grind again, but I think I've had enough caffeine for the day!

But here's the best part. My wife wasn't too impressed that I went ahead and bought the machine. However I made the very first brew a latte for her- and she loved it! This is going to see a fair bit of use in our house, and then the boat!

It's not as large as I had imagined, which is also good for the boat, comes with a 10 year warranty, looks pretty nifty and is fun to use!

I mostly drink americanos, and my wife drinks lattes or cappuccinos. The included frother is easy to use. Right now I'm realaxing after supper with an americano topped up with Kahlua. The only thing better would be if I was enjoying it whilst being anchored off a beach somewhere!

You've obviously never tried the AeroPress, quicker than a drip cone, MUCH better flavour and only 23.95 for press and at least a year's worth of filters from Amazon UK.

I'm a convert!

Make that 10 years worth of filters - they can be rinsed and reused at least a dozen times .
I am a convert too .

I just took delivery of two Zyliss lidded insulated plunger mugs mainly for when we are on passage. They will be very handy then I think. Although the coffee is vastly better than instant, it isn't nearly as good as Aeropress coffee.
