Does anyone know of a good... repeat... GOOD manual coffee grinder?

To my way of thinking... there's nothing quite so good as
good quality coffee... freshly ground and brewed!!!

Sipping a fresh ground cup as we speak. They do make good hand grinders but they tend to be expensive. The best deals are from antique shops, $10 or so, German made 100 years ago.
Some folks roast their own daily, but that's too weird.
Roasted beans will last a long time if properly packed, we're still on some we bought in SF 6 months ago, 3lbs/$12 at Costco and really good. Of course Peets is the best.
We like the French press.

i do....mine...i bought it in west marine before they stopped selling em. p[lastic and grinds coffee like pepper mill....mebbe rei??? mebbe a rv store??? dont know. still looking for aback up model....

I've been using the Hario Skerton Grinder for a while now and am very pleased with it. You can get it marketed by Kyocera for about $50, or find it cheaper on line: for example,

Manual Grinders | Sweet Maria's Coffee

Don't know how well it would hold up on a boat, but I'm hoping to find out some day.

Kyocera just puts it in a box and doesn't even put their name on it. But there is a "Hario on the bottom of the glass.

We use the Hario Skerton grinder on board. The admiral is VERY fussy about her coffee and loves it. I believe she got it on line from Williams Sonoma. Grinding in the cockpit and smelling the beans while the water heats is a great way to start the day.

We've been using the Hario Slim (see the Sweet Maria website above) for awhile now and love it. Compact, virtually unbreakable and most important, yields a nice grind. There is no better way to start the morning than with a good cup of coffee.

I have a plastic bodied mill that has the same (or similiar) burs as the Zassenhaus Turkish but cost considerably less. I've had it for a lot of years and they don't seem to make them anymore; Lagoustina or something like that. Great coffee mills.

We have an old English-made Spong wall mounted unit... found it cheap at a big antiques joint. Has worked well for us and we are pretty fussy about our coffee. Adjustable fine to course and hund on the bulkhead stays out of the way. I see them on E-Bay U.K. pretty regularly.

I have a Zassenhaus that I like very much; however, as some friends might testify, in the wilderness I have been known to grind the beans between two stones in a pinch.

I've had a Zassenhaus knee grinder for going on 40 years. Zassenhaus Knee Mill - Two Colors - Manual - Grinders

It's a burr grinder so you get uniform grind with minimal powder which is really nice for using a French Press to make the coffee. You don't need to strain the coffee through your teeth. More importantly, on a boat, you sit down on a lee berth and grind away. No need for you to hang onto anything while you grind your coffee. With the regular grinders you have to hang on to something to stabilize yourself in a seaway while holding the grinder and turning the crank. I'm short one arm for doing that at sea.

The electric whirling knife grinders don't give a uniform grind and produce lots of powder. Fine for a drip filter system that will keep the fines from getting into the coffee. Unfortunately, find the drip makers are really a pain and potentially dangerous to use if it's at all rough when sailing. Once again short a hand or two to hold the drip filter/thermos, pour the boiling waer into the filter and keep myself from being flung about the boat.
