Sorry, I just had this picture in my mind, and it was my first response.
Eggs do last a long time unrefrigerated and they are available pretty much anywhere. Don't they have powdered eggs too?

Shouldn't this be part of the "Why do marinas seem to hate liveaboards?" thread?

Seriously some of the boats I've seen in the mooring field in San Diego look like they may have EVERYTHING growing on them!

Wouldn't that be Chicken on The Sea which rhymes with chicken fricassee

Off course if the chickens swallow some seawater during storms it saves on having to take salt for your eggs ( how will you do it with the bacon needed for a good English breakfast )

Customs should not be a problem since you can have grilled chickens prior to arriving in each country and source fresh ones in this new country,

(lol)

Chickens on board

Don't know what the fuss is about. When I went cruising, I took a pig with me, and it did very well. It could have been because it was in the form of smoked bacon.

Lots of laughs on this thread.
I'm pretty sure the OP was serious. But the picture that came to mind.... lol.
And yeah, intergrating it with the marina thread would be priceless...!

lf you raised boneless chickens they might take up less room.

Not only do they take up less room, the boneless, skinless ones are a lot healthier! Perhaps they do better at sea and won't need health certificates becuase they are so healthy!

I have sailed for years with chickens over my stern. You will have no problem with Customs what-so-ever, if you can answer their one simple question; What arrived first, the chicken or the egg?

Mike, there will be no issue about departing with chicken livestock since they are readily available provisions.

However most quarantine on arrival in a new country will confiscate them unless you have the necessary import papers for that cargo.

A simple solution is to make sure that the chicken never makes landfall in a new country and munching on a drumstick upon arrival could become a tradition.

Best of luck!

Having tended chickens as a lad, there's nothing nastier than a chicken coop....
