BTW - I don't really care if there is rat, donkey, horse etc in my burger as long as it tastes good. I even might accept some vegetation in it as an effort to save some poor animal, but I suspect they would be kind of tough tasting.
I dunno, MacDs is psuedofood and certainly not a great burger. I would not even eat them when I lived on the States...no way I would eat one now unless literally starving. Fuddruckers OTOH....wow...now that's a real burger.

I've had some good "alternative" meat burgers (emu, goat, buffalo, who knows what unknowingly) that were all quite good. Some good veggie options out there too like Portobello mushrooms.

That kinda pisses off the farmers, though.

I forgot about them. Best deal also, since you can either split one with a party of six, or don't have to eat for two days after eating one by yourself…

Re: Cheeseburger in Paradise

I'll never have a really first class cheeseburger while cruising. Growing up in Texas, we got spoiled. Good beef, knowledgeable cooks, excellent grills and sauces, and the one ingredient that will never exist in a commercial establishment...home grown tomatoes.

There is also the question of whose definition of "good" you use for a cheeseburger. Many, many people profess to actually LIKE the taste of iceberg lettuce and actually put that on their food. It amazes me, but people eat it.

But whether you like lettuce or not....

"there's' just two things that money can't buy
and that's true love and home grown tomatoes."

Horse meat is quite tasty. I've had very nice horse meat burgers in France for example

Re: Cheeseburger in Paradise

One can find bad, horrible, gross, nasty, lousy...you name it...burgers anywhere. I had one just last week from a Mexican restaurant that also sorely messed up some French fries. (Didn't have a choice, I was on jury duty, kinda the definition of a "captive" audience!) YUCKY, kept ALIVE the rest of the afternoon on lollipops!

Paradise is what YOU make it.

Re: Cheeseburger in Paradise

, not if you buy it from them first colemj.

I'm not badmouthing horse meat; I just personally wouldn't eat it because they've been my friends & I wouldn't want to eat them. I was saying if I thought I was buying beef I'd be ticked to find out I was eating something else..

This was 12 years ago though so who knows if it's still there or how the quality still is.
Fat Virgin?

I miss Fuddruckers here in Wpg. I don't know why they closed, but they made great burgers. It takes a great bun to make a great burger, along with the meat of course.

There are apparently 3 - 5 guys burger places in Wpg. but I've never seen them. Looks like they are franchised to other restaurants.

Re: Cheeseburger in Paradise

It is starting to sound that a good cheeseburger is more rare than a nice quiet anchorage

Re: Cheeseburger in Paradise

I remember the Kids started talking about cheesebugers at least 3 or 4 weeks before we got to a US harbor !! LOL Used to get my goat a little cus I thought my BarBQUE burgers were pretty good !! But after eating, tuna, lobster, clams, oysters, and many other tasty foods at sea and in far flung harbors, it's sorta strange how much something like a good old burger from anywhere in the US tastes like Magic to a guy !!

There is definately something very satisfying about a good cheeseburger after a long time on the water. It is usually one of the first things I search for when I get ashore. I rarely eat them otherwise and don't recall ever making them aboard (except occassionally on charters).
