BTW - I don't really care if there is rat, donkey, horse etc in my burger as long as it tastes good. I even might accept some vegetation in it as an effort to save some poor animal, but I suspect they would be kind of tough tasting.

I dunno, MacDs is psuedofood and certainly not a great burger. I would not even eat them when I lived on the States...no way I would eat one now unless literally starving. Fuddruckers OTOH....wow...now that's a real burger.

I've had some good "alternative" meat burgers (emu, goat, buffalo, who knows what unknowingly) that were all quite good. Some good veggie options out there too like Portobello mushrooms.

I'll never have a really first class cheeseburger while cruising. Growing up in Texas, we got spoiled. Good beef, knowledgeable cooks, excellent grills and sauces, and the one ingredient that will never exist in a commercial establishment...home grown tomatoes.

There is also the question of whose definition of "good" you use for a cheeseburger. Many, many people profess to actually LIKE the taste of iceberg lettuce and actually put that on their food. It amazes me, but people eat it.

But whether you like lettuce or not....

One can find bad, horrible, gross, nasty, lousy...you name it...burgers anywhere. I had one just last week from a Mexican restaurant that also sorely messed up some French fries. (Didn't have a choice, I was on jury duty, kinda the definition of a "captive" audience!) YUCKY, kept ALIVE the rest of the afternoon on lollipops!

I'm not badmouthing horse meat; I just personally wouldn't eat it because they've been my friends & I wouldn't want to eat them. I was saying if I thought I was buying beef I'd be ticked to find out I was eating something else..

I remember it being good and don't remember anything negative about it at all. If you are at the bitter end yacht club you can see the place across the bay and if you ask any of the staff how to get to the "burger in paradise" they will get you a ride over. This was 12 years ago though so who knows if it's still there or how the quality still is.

Fuddruckers OTOH....wow...now that's a real burger.

I miss Fuddruckers here in Wpg. I don't know why they closed, but they made great burgers. It takes a great bun to make a great burger, along with the meat of course.

There are apparently 3 - 5 guys burger places in Wpg. but I've never seen them. Looks like they are franchised to other restaurants.

I remember the Kids started talking about cheesebugers at least 3 or 4 weeks before we got to a US harbor !! LOL Used to get my goat a little cus I thought my BarBQUE burgers were pretty good !! But after eating, tuna, lobster, clams,oysters, and many other tasty foods at sea and in far flung harbors, it's sorta strange how much something like a good old burger from anywhere in the US tastes like Magic to a guy !!

There is definately something very satisfying about a good cheeseburger after a long time on the water. It is usually one of the first things I search for when I get ashore. I rarely eat them otherwise and don't recall ever making them aboard (except occassionally on charters).
