Can Crusher Onboard - Who Has Them?

You mean like the one about how my friend tried crushing a can between the bow of my inflatable and my transom and he ended up putting a hole in the bow tube?

The failure of that experiment is what lead to the invention of the wind-powered-wheeled-can-crusher-machine.

I had an old wind generator that didn't work any more except to support part of a tarp draped over the cockpit, and well there was this abandoned car near where we used to turn the squished cans in for money, and one thing lead to another one night, and well you know how it goes.

We had a lot of fun with that thing for a while but it probably encouraged us to drink more than we should have been.

It really made a terrible racket when it shot the beer cans into an old fiberglass dink with a broken seat we used as or garbage scow.

We used to joke about the old Star Trek episode where a Klingon insults Scotty saying that the Enterprise wasn't worthy of hauling garbage but instead should be hauled "as garbage" prompting a fight between the two crews and we would engage in mock battle scattering beer cans across the cockpit.

Not long after that the sugar-gas-tank-incident happened which I guess shouldn't have been such a surprise.

In the end this probably was a good thing because I must have looked pretty stupid driving around with that partially inflated bow tube like that.

I tried patching the hole by squeezing two pieces of plywood together with one on the inside and one on the outside using some drywall screws with some silicone in between but that never really worked that good so it sort of drooped all the time. We called the dink "droopy"

Ah well, lesson learned I guess. I have a rowing dinghy these days.

My advice is to avoid can-crusher-machines altogether but your mileage may vary.

Too right! We've left cans on the boat for just a couple of weeks that have gone on to develop pinholes - draining the contents in the process.

Small white composite (plastic?) cutting board, occasionally placed on cockpit sole. Stomp.

I did bring a can-crusher on board, once, but never found a decent place to mount it. See above.

I really had one, cruising 20 years ago. If I remember correctly, I mounted it on the inside of a galley door. open the door, raise the handle, insert can, crush can, eject can, lower the handle, close door. This time around, I think I'll make do with a sodastream and bottles of rum...
