Holy crap. I had no idea, I was also speaking of the drip machine like Belizesailor!!! Putting a device like that on a boat is out of my league!!!

Just grind'em up, put a basket style filter in a mini colander with a handle. Heat clean water in the tea kettle pour it through the grounds while colander is setting on the coffee mug. Grounds will make two good good strong cups. When finished, discard grounds and filter into trash bag. Who needs expensive equipment for a simple beverage?

I am with Weavis on the value of semi-automatic machines over the superautomatic. Look at a Gaggia Classic with the PID mod, it is about $600, but requires an accurate grinder. With it you can make exquisite espressos and lattes, and even learn to do latte art. These things do require lots of power though. Another is the Rancilio Silva.

When we moved onto the boat we found a smaller DeLonghi machine for about $300 on Amazon. It works just as well as the big machine and takes less space. Makes great coffee - worth starting your gen if you need to.

However, since I mostly live aboard, waiting to "go ashore" for good coffee is not a very good option for me.
