Which soap lathers best in salt water?

Clear ones. Not soaps but actually detergents. Dish soaps, shampoos and body washes work well.

FWIW Prell gel works great as shampoo in salt water.

Just FYI, lathering or suds means nothing as to how well a soap or detergent cleans. We as a society have been led to believe this from adverts, and manufactures put in additives that do nothing but produce bubbles so we think the soap is doing something. However from a chemical standpoint, it means nothing.

I've not had much luck with bar soaps, but I've found Lemon Joy works fairly well. I've found that Sailor Soap works even better. It's very concentrated and a little goes a very long way. www.sailorsoap.net

I wonder what long term exposure to salt water for bathing does to you. I know sun turns you into a crusty ole sailor, but what about salt water? I know it heals the skin quite well. I have a touch of psoriasis and when I head south and swim in the Ocean is clears up in a day or two. But we will be living on our boat in about four weeks in the Caribbean and I wonder how my body will react to constant exposure to salt water. I planned on bathing in the Ocean more often vs. using the shower onboard. anything I should watch out for?

no problems-- if not rinsed off with fresh water, will cause sores in some folks' skin as is a lil caustic-- removes dirt well, and with soap, is excellent cleaner.

Fresh water probably places greater stress on your skin. I know my skin radically wrinkles in a few minutes of tropical rain - but not in seawater.

I've been bathing in seawater for months. Usually by jumping in and out, or a bucket if underway. It's no big deal. I use cheap shampoo. I prefer a quick fresh rinse in the ships fresh water to toweling of the salt water only because it saves laundry work. Salty towels never dry and can get quite a smell going.

I have short hair so there's no issue there. Those with long locks will need a better rinse and maybe conditioners to get the feel they like. They may need a little fresh water for the shampoo too.

As for salt residue on the skin....that appears naturally by perspiration a few minutes after the shower due to the constant heat and humidity of tropical paradise locales.

Sometimes I let the salt dry on my skin. Feels kinda nice. But I wouldn't go to the bunk that way as it can be a bit irritating where pieces rub.
