We used similar sized fridges in the medical lab.
I was just wanting something smaller... again... based upon my lifestyle, I don't require a large fridge.
It wouldn't be some permanent installation that would mean reconstruction of the boat... so if I sell it down the way, it shouldn't be a minus on my end
So, get a small one like those used in mini bars and hotels. Had a super small one in my hotel last weekend, and it was cold!!

No, I meant the 12v whynter portable fridge/freezer. It's an Engle knock off. There are several different models. You could run it in the car off the cig lighter plug on the way to the boat when provisioning.

Re: Anyone use a Wine Cabinet as their fridge?

The opposite -using a fridge to cool wine- works well, and has better shelving for a wider variety of containers. I cannot recall well, but when we installed our home wine cooler it seems there was a significant need for leveling, which is known to be difficult on a sailing vessel. Refrigerators are also more flexible, which can be important when a could beer is needed.

I bought a Whirlpool bar fridge big enough to cool a home brew keg (26"tall). Then I drilled a hole in the door to mount a beer tap.

Thanks to this thread, now I am thinking of installing it in the boat. Hmm...where to put it?

Edit: sorry about pictures being rotated 90 °...they are fine on the computer

guess it might depend on whether you need another fridge for food or not? LOL

Re: Anyone use a Wine Cabinet as their fridge?

This is the type of portable refrigerator/freezer Recommended for use in boats. It is a very similar design to the Engel, but at a lower price. It has been discussed on CF before. It comes in various sizes.

Since you may be doing only limited use or short voyages, a simple icebox is probably most cost effective.

Thanks, I'll check the link out later today and look at the options to it.
For just sailing around our bay, the icebox might be fine... it's just that I HATE dealing with ice when camping... so I'm transferring those feelings to ice on the boat! hahaha

But the upside is that the icebox drains all that melted water away... so it'd be different than using an icechest on land, I guess.

One other thing is that as I finish working on the DC and AC systems... I'm trying to think ahead about other devices/appliances I may want to add in the near future.
Just want to have some planning done ahead with my switch panels and power sources.

The PO of my boat connected the drain from the ice box to the manual bilge pump and isolated that branch with a manual shut off valve. The surveyor was mildly impressed.
