Anyone Tried Canned Bacon?

As we start to make our list of food and provisions for our trip south, I was thinking about ordering some canned bacon. Has anyone ever tried this stuff and is it any good? My first thought is that it would be very salty and not so good for you. But I do love bacon and this does seem better then cooking on a hung over sunday morning.

Feedback please if you have any!!!!

Cheers

Never tried canned bacon, but Brinkman Farms has pretty good cooked canned meats (chicken, turkey, ground beef, chunk beef, pork) and other foods.

p.s. here's an earlier thread on the bacon topic http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f91/canned-bacon-is-back-18645.html

Not personally - but there's an interesting taste test here It seems it might be improved by heating it up...

Interesting artical, I think I will spend the 3 extra dollars on alcohol to cook real bacon.

Yup, We have a few cans. it appears to be the same stuff you buy in the store. It is the precooked stuff and does not need to be refrigerated, Boars Head, Oscar Meyer both have 6 months + shelf life. I like the Boars Head brand because the packaging is 7-8 strips in a simple poly sleeve after you toss the paper box cover away. Takes only a min. to heat up.

And it smells so good when you cook it. The boats downwind of you will be jealous!

We all need a purpose in life, and that includes pigs.

Tried some tinned bacon a few years ago,and it was bloody salty, pretty greasy, and not really all that good. This stuff was DAK brand from Denmark, and we didn't repeat the experience.

Go the Brinkman Farms! It is the best in the world and the ONLY products like it in the world. If you are in the USA get a full years supply (or more)

The cans are a bit too large, 800grams but there is nothing else we have found.

If they exported here, or if we were there we would buy 10 cases or more. The steak chunks are just sensational.

$6 per can thats just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cheap!
