You have to see this to believe it!

This boat arrived last night in Vero Beach.
It's been coming south on the ICW with an 80' mast and 7'10" draft.
Each water bag weighs 2000#.

That is crazy! But, it is obvious that this guy and his crew really know their boat and they have this whole procedure down to a science!! Thanks for the find and sharing!

That technique doesn't work nearly as well with a catamaran.

How are they getting the bags to stay out wide like that? Are they using poles? I can't see any.

I think the weight of the water as the bags fill causes the boat to heel. They have lines to the bags to limit the horizontal travel. The farther the boat heels, the more lever arm is generated. No pole needed. I suppose they pull the plugs to drain the bags to stand upright.

If you look closely you can see lines to the bottom of the bags. I'll bet they just winch them back in and up after they get under the bridge.

I wonder why they chose to run in the ICW verse staying outside? I guess they use this setup as well when they run into shallow water to angle the keel for shorter draw. R they still in Vero?

Well at least he's got a good system for getting off when he runs aground.
