Seen that before and I still can't imagine any incentive that would get me to sail my boat, under spinnaker, at low tide, between those rocks.

Your boat? Sure, I'm game... Looks like expensive fun. Call it hidden rock roulette...

LOL! And another reason to never let the guy who owns the boatyard set up the race course!

Re: Worst.Seamanship.Ever

I only came across this today, but it seems like it's been around for a while.

One of the best boat names I've ever seen is "Drive it Like you Stole It" (Laser - so very appropriate). These guys put that name to shame!

It's been confirmed many times before: Competition causes humans, especially, males, to turn into idiots...

Ahh.. Sweden! Totally agree with the ridiculousness of the spinnaker being "set" while entering the inlet - it's not like they've got a nice bank for sand or mud to run aground either: that's very solid and clean granite they're driving on/into there! Shocking!

Thanks for posting though

Um ... just noticed your boat is 'for sale' in Norway. YOU weren't one of those (DoJ is on to you!)

Haha, just kidding (though the scary thing is, all of those boats are going to be sold on to someone!)

Dumb: sailing into rocks
Dumber: sailing into rocks under spinnaker
Dumbest: sailing into rocks under spinnaker while being videotaped.

Well, as someone else pointed out: it didn't just happen once that day, so the chances are that the boat will be sold locally to someone else without a healthy respect for spinnakers and solid rock!

As for "Cavalier the unnamed boat" it's pristine except for a slight abrasion of the gel coat in one spot (about the diameter of a teacup) which I picked up during a storm. The neighbor boat did me a "favor" and adjusted my fenders higher than i'd purposefully set them which subsequently popped two upwards due to the pressure and wave action against the finger pontoon: yay! Though, he was trying to be helpful so I couldn't be annoyed. Swearing through my teeth, yes - but annoyed/angry, no!

Anyway, the gelcoat's just dulled and not worn through so I asked the yard to polish it out in my absence (as I'm not in Europe anymore).

Re: Worst.Seamanship.Ever

I've read about this on another forum. There is no requirement that they go through that pass. I forget whether it is a shorter path or has more favorable current or both that entices some in the race to take this route.
