Windward islands charter

Thinking about a location for our second bareboat charter. We did 10 days in the Bahamas for a first go. Somewhere in the windward islands (St Lucia, svg, Granada) look interesting and are relatively cheap for us to get to from Canada. I am looking for advice on 2 topics:
1) the general difficulty level is rated as high for this area (compared to BvI which is low) - Why is that? Open ocean is the obvious answer, but is that the only thing?
2) How concerned should I be about the security situation in this area? According to https://safetyandsecuritynet.org/5180-2/ this doesn't look like a friendly place to visit. In 2016 only three countries accounted for slightly more than 50% of total incidents, vs. 4 countries in 2015. During 2016 Grenada had 24 reports, St. Lucia 12 and SVG 12. I will have 5 young kids on board.
