'05 went back and tried again early May.. got **** kicked again but this time kept going.. had to hand steer from N of Bermuda to the Azores then UK.. boat was an H37c and I was solo both times.
What they basically lacked was deep water experience and storm conditions.. they'll have learnt a thing or 2 out there which will hold them in good stead if they/he has another go.

I don't think Jason will be giving any seminars on safety or regret. As he posted today that had it not been for the failure of the alternator, wind generator, torn sails and finally, the motor... "If the problems had not happened they would of been around 250 miles from Bermuda when the storm hit, most likely missing any of the storm."

By comparison, Australia's massive rescue zone is carried on the backs of only 22million Aussies...and, being both mariners and Aussies, we are always supportive of their efforts and their demands on the OZ budget.

Dunno if it helps our U.S. cousins' feelings, but I am pretty sure I spent twice that rescue cost on retail and services last time I visited the States. (I LOVE California!) So you are probably still ahead on balance.

No where in the article does it say that they think it's 8600nm. It's written in the introduction and it was presumably calculated by the reporter from google earth.
