Transferring fuel underway.

Getting ready for a Baja Bash and wondering about the best way to transfer fuel underway from on deck 5 gal jugs to the main tank filler port in the cockpit floor. Anybody have a preferred technique?

Siphon, as opposed to pouring.
I've done 60 gl barrels on the swim platform of a Sportfisherman, used an electric pump for that, but Jerry Cans I siphon.

There's a neat syphon for that... just bob it up and down a few times to get it started.. cannot remember its name..

Boatie is 100% correct. A jiggle siphon is just the ticket.

Re: Transferring fuel underway.

A simple length of hose will work in the absence of a jiggle siphon.

Put one end into the jerry can to the bottom, the other into your fuel fill. Put a rag around the hose leading into the jerry can at the opening, with one finger poking in next to the hose...pull your finger out and blow into the resulting hole to start the siphon.

Re: Transferring fuel underway.

Cheapest way is to make up you're own syphon, outboard primer pump to get it going and two lengths of hose (I used old washing machine hose) - about 3-4 feet on each side of the pump so that you can choose where the jerry can will be for maximum convenience.

It's clean and simple, no fuel spills at all.
