Lorenzo, We did the trip to
Guatemala from the Keys and your only possible issue might be Guatemala to Providencia, and that is done all the time by sailors. Once you turn the corner at
Honduras you will have beam seas and winds most of the way to
Panama. You will have beam seas and winds all the way from the
Yucatan to Guatemala most of the time. We had very little problems with currents once across the Stream and Yucatan Channel. There is no right or wrong way since running down island will give you lots of unfavorable conditions also. We much prefer the Western
Caribbean. It is much cheaper, far less crowded and less hassle with officials. We documented the entire trip on our Sea Trek site. Chuck
