Splicing Braid

Can anyone point me to directions on how to eye splice a fuzzy braided rope with a three core inner? The cover is braided polyester

I failed to do that splice and opted for seizing it instead. If you want to give it a try, Google for it using Samson as extra keyword because they make rope like that.

Also, to have any chance, the rope must be brand new, never stretched yet.

ciao!
Nick.

Re: Splicing braid

Try the SparTalk forum on Brion Toss' website. Someone there has undoubtedly accomplished the splice you are looking for.

Re: Splicing braid

I could never get that splice right ! messed it up everytime! So I whipped it, mostly I used waxed whipping cord. not as pretty as a sailmakers whipping, but a little easier, and almost as long lived. Just my 2 cents Bob and Connie

Re: Splicing Braid

I want to make a sliding loop (like the one on a soft shackle) at the end of a line. Is there a line I can do that with other than deneema?

Any single braid line will work, but the eye won't slide as well. Polyester Tenex work a pretty well.

Re: Splicing Braid

This topic just came up within the last week, as it was befuddling the person trying to splice it. I think that the header involved Kernmantle line, & perhaps Seaworthy Lass started the thread. So you might try there.

Re: Splicing Braid

Personally, I have no use for braid cover, 3-strand core. The core will rotate under load, the cover will not, resulting in hockles.

Get different line. the core and the cover must have similar properties.
