Perhaps a new world record - taking the smallest horse non-stop around the world? East or west - around the capes or through the canals - US, French, British, Australian - male or female mini-horse - Maybe still the goat?

Hey D? Will the Goat share his fodder? Horses actually travel pretty well by sea. They get their sea legs fast and don't usually get sea sick.

Goats and horses are fine. The early Spanish explorers carried both. I've always found sheep are better company. Jes' saying. A guy could get lonely on a solo nonstop.

I read nonstop as around the capes. Just another tho as I haven't done it meself.

Wouldn't a record attempt be made in a faster boat than a Formosa 41?

Is the home country a secret because some reader in the same country will be inspired to beat Capt Z to the record?

I am certainly a promoter of reading the circumnav texts, but here is a situation that begs for some actual sailing experience but perhaps the cap has had ASA 101. That ought to do it!

This sounds quixotic to me.

Google's photo was taken before Mike swapped locations between his adjacent houseboat (rectangular) and sailboat (berthed crooked) and before I moved in.

Well, that seems to indicate one better not depend on Google Maps or Bing for long/lat readings! I get the same result with both.

To anyone, is the correct way to enter long/lat in Google/Bing to replicate an actual location of 38.6384 N 122.16.62 W by entering 38.6384 -122.16062? If so, you get the above results.

Note to the OP, don't depend on Google or Bing, you will need charts. (just so we don't continue with thread drift)

I just use Google earth and I have the options set for degrees and decimal minutes. Then I enter 38 06.384 n take note of the spaces.
It can be a bit of a pain in the butt because no one seems to write L&L in the same manner and they need a bit of jiffing about.

Yep, my bad. I'm easily outraged by, well, many things I read. That ol' Cat Wrangler slowed me down long enough to re-read the original post. The "record" bit got me off on a tangent. Speaking of tangents, the thread drift above is pretty impressive. I like a decent thread drift.

No kidding a pain in the pedacus.

Finally using the format 38 06.384 -122 16.062 in Google Maps, I come up with the same result (although the pic is a bit different then from Google Earth).

So, those who want to try and use Google Maps for long/lat format is as Mark outlined. Make sure that for single digits you include the leading "0" as in "06" and not just "6".

Now, I wonder if I will remember next time
