Sailing School Recommendation for BVI's

My cousins are interested in taking a week long live aboard sailing course in BVI's this winter. Can folks recommend a particular school/course? It will be for used for bareboat certification. For example Colgate's course or others?

Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chuck

Re: Sailing School Recommendation for BVI's

I took several ASA courses with Rob Swain Sailing School at Nanny Cay and was very satisfied.

Talk to Steve Varrow at Tortola Sailing School, he has a number of ASA and or iyt courses available on mono or cat. Tony

I'll second rob swain's group, we had a great experience there with Tom Farbanish as our instructor. Learned a lot that wasn't in the ASA books about cruising and built a very solid foundation; and of course had a great time!

p.s. Former students at swain's also get a discount on bareboat charters in the future. This makes it a very competitively priced charter option if your cousins plan to make a habit of sailing in the BVI.

Re: Sailing School Recommendation for BVI's

Chuck,
My family just returned from a week in the BVI where we lived aboard a 47 foot Beneteau and took the ASA 103/104 courses through SunSail. It was a great week. The instructor's name is Matt Holt. He was exceptionally knowledgable in all things sailing, not to mention history, ecology, and weather. He was able to explain complex subjects in an easy to understand way. A natural teacher. There were five in my family. We had plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling and short shore excursions. The weather was "sporty" for the first few days, with squalls gusting to 40 and waves. Great experience for reefing, harnesses, anchoring and dealing with mal de mer. The week was a confidence builder for all of us. Excellent product from SunSail.

Ron Swain was our choice. Experienced. Well priced. Fine experience
