RVG Windvane Info

Does anyone have any info on RVG windvanes?

Here is one;

Ok, I know that is not helpful.... (found at 'ocean navigator')

Specifically looking for a manual, or info on the mounts.

Thanks.

This one is from a really great page on a couple who took off on a Triton. Different Drum across the Pacific

I have an RVG vane gear which came with the 42ft yacht I bought in California earlier this year. It was off the boat and I have not used it, but I think it's complete except for one broken mounting bracket. I have the full manual. I'd like to sell it - any offers? It is here in England but I can ship it to wherever (I've just shipped the boats original Perkins engine to Hong Kong for $270 so shipping may not be so expensive).

Thanks

Yes,

I contacted him and have not yet recieved a reply. I had also contacted the last two adds there (both over a year old) with no luck.

There are a bunch of posts on the 'net' where people have said they had RVG's and that they liked them quite a bit but I can find little info.

A friend of mine has one that I could probably fit to my boat. It has no mounts, and I am not at all sure if it works. Most vanes are pretty easy to figure out, but I am not so sure this one makes sense to me.

Anyone remember using one>?

The fact that ”... Most vanes are pretty easy to figure out, but I am not so sure this one makes sense to me ...” might be telling you something, perhaps about why they went out of business.

They are easy to use. Probably the easiest of any steering vane, since they do not connect to the boats main steering. It is essentially a rudder with a trim tab that is attached to the foil. They work very well and it's quite obvious how they work if you just look at the thing (unlike my Aries, the vane I have on my boat)
I have one I would like to sell. The cruiser I bought it from thought very highly of it. I'm not sure I want to pack and ship this though- it's very big. Located in Southern California.
