FC1937, not sure why you think this is a joke, I am happy to see someone like Martin Sheen supporting Sea Shepherd. The work they do, however controversial, is brilliant for anyone who loves the sea and its environment.

You must mean like the Makah. Or the Norwegians. The Norwegians used to have a pro-whaling T-shirt that read "We'd hunt dolphins, too, but no one has told us we can't."

Re: New Sea Shepherd vessel and shes a beauty

I'd like to know more about the yacht. Presumably not a new build.

But also the older I get the more I appreciate the efforts of Sea Shepard.

Humans have many millions of advocates, the natural world has only a few unequivocal advocates.

Those doing research are not really supposed to have agendas. What happens is the methodology ends up being designed so that the results concur with their agenda. Doing it this way does not fit the Scientific Method, which then does not make it true science. But then try to get the press to understand that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method

Research vessels named after somebody are usually named after a deceased scientist who greatly contributed to science.

Very nice boat though!

Beautiful vessel. I hope they keep that idiot "Capt." Paul Watson away from her. Or is it Captain Kangaroo?

I hope that wasn't taken wrong by the Aussies. I was making reference to a kid's TV show of yore.

Exactly. Real science is agnostic as to the results; it just reports it. What happens after that is up to society. Agenda driven "research" is propaganda, not science.

Naming a RV today is follow the dollar. I'm not sure if that is good or bad? It probably does get research $s ? Dead men don't contribute.

Ah ... just like the myth of the unbiased journalist It's a fine aspirational goal, and some researchers (and journalists) come closer to the ideal than others, but no one is 100% free of bias.

Scientists are humans too. No such thing as agnostic science. But that's the wonder, beauty and power of the Scientific Method. It is a process that works despite the biases or agendas humans/researchers bring to the table. Through fits and starts it inexorably pushes in the direction of greater understanding of the phenomena being studied.

I really wish this was true.
