You know jealousy is part of it and ignorance and no imagination and land locked small mind syndrome. Also the yobs on marina bound death traps who sailed 20miles in 1970.

Just losers. Why dont you untie those lines and drift up north a bit. I need to talk to someone close to normal.....
Rusky,

Thanks for the good advice - this place is definitely one big "jealousy trap". Like the poster above says, most peoples only source of adventure around here is the Discovery Channel, which leaves most of their comments as an over-inflated statements of their egos.

The big thing is to just step away, get the heck out and enjoy yourself, conceding this is not as easy as it might seem when you are overwhelmed by negativity from the irrational competition. This is where it is great to have friends who are there to give that bit of needed encouragement so thanks again!

Oh, I am just checking the weather before heading North. Hopefully I will be making Brisbane and will drop by and say hello.

As I have told many of my nay-sayers, The only place you get adventure without risk is at Disneyland. Without risk there is no adventure. I will judge the risks and sail accordingly.

OK, now everyone chime in with the boy that died at the Huck Finn Riverbaot ride.

Most people are stuck. They're sure that staying stuck is the right thing and they've bet their lives on it. You threaten their beliefs.

I'd be worried about Mickey and his friends -- what are the hiding under all that stuff?

Re: Negativity on Sailing Your Own Boat (RANT)

Negativity is one thing. But some people mistake any piece of advice or as negativity. You need to learn to tell the difference and accept the valuable, reject the rest. It's hard to do because there is so much emotion connected with having your dreams (and opinions about them) challenged by others.

Question Re: Negativity on Sailing Your Own Boat (CURE?)

Guys, found a cure! Went sailing outside with a big SW up my stern and a serious following sea. The old girl even hit top gear on a couple of decent gusts. One great way to get all that crap out of your head!

Welcome to the other side friend.

We are the people who can, and who do, and who discover and learn, and try.

We find ourselves engaging less and less with the beer and tv crowd.

I spend most of every day doing things that can't be done.

Welcome to the forum.

In isolation, that's a very interesting statement!
Could get you looked after by nice people in white coats...

Re: Negativity on Sailing Your Own Boat (RANT)

TACKLE THE THING – By Edgar A. Guest
Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he tried.
So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and did it.

Somebody scoffed: Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one has ever done it”;
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.
