my slow boat

I keep reading over the years here how slow my boat brand is. Since I've never raced or spent time with real sailors maybe I just don't know what I'm doing! The first photo below is the other day in 20 knots of wind on a reach with first reef in the main, furled head sail, sailing for comfort at 7.5 knots (11 year old stock sails). The second is in 10 knots wind on a mid broad reach with our a-sym up at 8 knots and again sailing for comfort because a true reach would have been a better true course for us but we didn't feel like heeling so much.

Other than needing more courage to leave all the sail up or being more willing to have to walk at a bigger angle; what are we doing wrong?

Yes, but those are Hunter knots you're showing.... those are much slower than normal sailboat knots I hear.....

Re: my slow boat

...obviously the the keel had fallen off, reducing weight and increasing speed

Nice work, Don. Wish I had been along for the ride.

Re: my slow boat

WEll don

easy numbers to post if they are speed through the water and you have a 7,5 or 8 knot current flowing against you.

On second thought - its a Hunter - you need a 10 and 12 knot current flowing against you to post those speed through the water figures (Hunters sail backwards when on a reach)
