Re: Just When You Think You're Safe . . . CRASH !

still waiting on the insurance company to get the quotes in for it,
I will be sending them an email on Monday enquiring what is happening with it,
Every thing was closed for the holiday break,

I just have to wait for it,

But they are dragging their feet a bit,

Re: Just When You Think You're Safe . . . CRASH !

Well here it is,

The Insurance company has paid me out in full, Thank you very much,

I bought the boat back and am having it trucked to Melbourne,
It will be leaving Silverwater in NSW tomorrow Morning, Tuesday,

It will be parked on the side of the road, Hume Hwy, Cambellfield on Tuesday, and will arrive at Yaringa Marina at about 4-00 AM Wednesday morning,

Thats on the outskirts of Melbourne,

They can only drive between 1-00 and 5-00 AM due to the width of the boat, 14 feet, and it has an escort as well,

It will be good to finally inspect her and decide on the plan of action to repair her better than new,

Keeping in mind, that nothing above 4 feet from the bottom of the hulls is damaged,

She looks awesome on the back of the truck,

Cheers,
Brian,

Most important thing learned from all this. Anchor farther from shore next time and more scope (10:1).

Decent anchors is the go, Two newies coming up, Australian Super Sarca's.
I only had the boat since Sept, and most of that was at sea,

If I had the room, I would have put my whole chain and rope out, I like really long scopes,

I just learned you can have too much scope...

A friend wrapped the rode around the keel when the boat swung. There was so much rode out that the angle allowed the rode to be above the bottom of the keel. Unwrapping was a dive and a pita.

In certain conditions you have to have large scope. However I normally run 5:1 and I will consider carefully before going beyond 7:1 when conditions are not tough.

Re: Just When You Think You're Safe . . . CRASH !

Mr B. You did exactly what I would have done and the 12 pages of posts have forgotten to mention your trouble with steering.
If you had have been out any further, you would have ended up on the rocks and may have been killed.
At least being anchored 100 mtrs from the beach, you placed yourself and wife in a survivable situation and as long as you have insurance on the boat, who cares.
Anchors have always given me sleepless nights too mate.
Well done.

Re: Just When You Think You're Safe . . . CRASH !

I didnt show you the holes,

This is the before piccys, No wonder I got wet feet,

It has been a very good learning curve for me,

My boat can and will sink if it gets a hole in the bottom of it,

Container or a Floating Red Gum Sleeper, Or even a Coral out crop, Punches the thru hole in and thats a lot of water coming in,

Calculated with a lot of pumps to get the water out of the boat, Thats not viable or safe,
Lose power or run out of power, You sink, Its that simple,

I can get rubber Bladders that fold flat when not in use, and inflate with a high volume air pump in two or three minutes,

I can get them to be made in any shape I want, So I can put them in all three staterooms and the shower recess,

They will be shaped so that they fit in the back and front,

One Cubic metre per ton of water displacement, so I need a minimum of 5 bags X one cubic metre,

As long as my boat sits safely on top of the water, I dont care where the plimsol line is, Or how rough the weather,

It will calm down sooner or later, Then I can fix the Bloody holes, and pump it out,

No, I dont have any where to put in foam to make it Bouyant, I have a Pussy Catamaran, and all the holes are full of spare parts and tools, and electrical Equiptment,Etc Etc Etc,

From Cooktown on the East coast of North Queensland, all the way to Broome in the North of Western Australia, Except for Darwin,

You might as well think of your self being in the middle of the Southern Pacific,

Between NZ and Sth America, There is nothing up there, Even tho you are near the coastline, A few small towns, Diesel and Food, Thats about it,

Any help in an Emergency, Up there, Hahahahahahahahahahahaha There Aint NONE, Your well and truly on your own,

Another Reason, not to sink up there, The Crocodiles are 2/3's the length of my boat,
