It Can Be Done, Just Need The Right Plan

i am planning and researching for a voyage From either the west seaboard of north america or south america's seaboard. After i got the idea and started to do some research to see if it was possible, i came upon an article that talked of the people who have rowed rowboats across the Pacific ocean. After that it settled into my mind that i would try to put this voyage together.

What i want to do is sail a modified 20' beachcat across the pacific ocean from north america down to australia. Key word, Modified.

So any help, ideas, suggestions, experience, tips and/or tricks would be most welcome and appreciated!

Cheers

Jack

Re: it can be done, just need the right plan

It's been done or is being done right now. A few of us helped a french guy lift his beach cat out of the water and load it onto a support boat for the canal transit at shelter bay panama in March i think.
He had some fairly substantial sponsorship and a support boat in the mid 40 ft range, shadowing him.
I saw an article about him in a european multull mag but don't reca which one.
I'll try to find it tomorrow
I think he had an extensive sailing resume.
Regards
Paul

Hi Jack

Welcome aboard.

I think you might want to post a bit about what sailing experience you have. The type of voyage you are proposing is not to be taken lightly.

You might want to google Webb Childes - he' circumnavigated (on his way around for the sixth time as we speak) in various small boats (I believe down to 17 feet - could be wrong on that).

What you're proposing can be done - but you'd need extensive modifications and to be honest - unless you are an extremely competent sailor - your chances of doing this are virtually nil

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

These guys some years ago in a 25', there are some good videos of their journey in French. I don't think they finished IIRC.
