I tow a 17' center console with a 50 hp merc 2 stroke
on the umr. I've found that towing it just behind the swim platform works very well. I run a line from each rear cleat on the 38 to the forward cleats
on the 17' and then a short line from the bow eye on the 17' to a cleat in the center of the swim platform, this only keeps it centered and is slack when towing. The original purpose of the short line on the bow eye was to keep it from over running the swim platform, but that turned out to not be a problem. I normally tow at 6 to 7 mph, I 1st used this arrangement to go thru locks and towed on a long line but got tired of changing it and found that it followed nicely and didn't cause any problem and no lines to foul props.
