How To Afix Your Wheel When Heaving To

Hello!
Maybe an incredible stupid question but I have been wondering how to fix the steering wheel when heaving to? I have the mechanical 'brake' on the side but I can not imagine to rely on that. Any tips/recommendations? Cheers, Arjan

Lock the wheel at the required angle and use the brake then run a line from the windward side through the wheel at the most suitable spoke to stop the wheel then haul taut and cleat off... leave the brake on.. stops any flopping the other way...

I have a bit of shock-cord with an adjustable hook. So I can hook it to the wheel wherever I like

Re: how to afix your wheel when heaving to?

I would use a half inch or 5/8 inch shock or bungee . First adjust your rudder angle, tie off the wheel with bungee until the proper range is aquird,
then use another piece of line(1/4 or 3/8) to do a safety tie off, justin case the bungee failed, so u wouldnt start sailing or gaining headway inadvertantly.

Good luck and safe sailing

I haven't had a problem with the wheel brake holding.
