I'll advoid any collision when I can if stand on or not. I don't know the captain of the other vessel. When I was last out fishing I made a comment to the captain "you see that sail boat" we were on collision if he did not turn and the sail boat even tho under sail was comming from out port two reasons to give way.

My local lake it's advoid all and any. Even if there is state police on the water. No consoderation to stand on or not.

With all respect to LEOs, I suspect that very few of them know anything about COLREGS. Local statutes perhaps, blood alcohol levels sure, but rules for avoiding collisions... not very likely. Their jobs are tough enough without those issues which have been shown to be a bit subtile!
