Historical Wind Charts

Years ago, when planning for the Puerta Vallarta race, the pre-race planning committee published a wind rose/vector chart for the typical wind conditions found along the coast of Baja. I'm looking for something similar that will give the low/high/average wind speed and direction, for each month, along the entire west coast Washington, Oregon, California and Baja. I have two trips planned, Vancouver to Los Angeles in Sept/Oct, and Cabo in Oct/Nov. Would love to have the historical wind information available for trip planning.

Side note - I have found the NWS historical wind buoy data; That gives the hourly data, for US, but it is a lot of work to digest down to the typical wind patterns for planning purposes. Any slick website or reference material with this info?

Thanks
Don

Re: Historical Wind Charts

Download the relevant "Pilot Chart" from:

Maritime Safety Information

"Atlas of Pilot Charts spacer

Pilot Charts depict averages in prevailing winds and currents, air and sea temperatures, wave heights, ice limits, visibility, barometric pressure, and weather conditions at different times of the year. The information used to compile these averages was obtained from oceanographic and meteorologic observations over many decades during the late 18th and 19th centuries.

The Atlas of Pilot Charts set is comprised of five volumes, each covering a specific geographic region. Each volume is an atlas of twelve pilot charts, each depicting the observed conditions for a particular month of any given year. "
