Height and choosing a PFD

The PFD I am looking at has an integral harness, but is for someone 5'5" tall and I am only 5'3" - is this going to matter? It's a Revere comfort-max manual inflatable life vest with harness. Your input appreciated

"... USCG approved for persons at least 16 years of age weighing 80 lbs. and above with a chest size between 30" and 52"..."

I don’t see any height specification.

Re: Height and choosing a PFD

As a fellow short person I think this is an interesting question that doesn't get much press. According to Steve Dashew in his exhaustive report on heavy weather( dashew heavy weather ) there can be a danger of the pfd slipping off of the shorter person while being either airlifted to safety or dragged back on board. I suppose that means if might slid over ones head just floating or being dragged by a tether. The right thing to do apparently is to wear leg straps. Somehow I doubt many people do that. I wonder if there are smaller PFDs on the market?

Re: Height and choosing a PFD

My wife and I have those kinds of PFDs and they work quite well. They are comfortable, and a good value for the money. I think it will work fine for you, but as mousenik mentioned, I think you definitely want to use a crotch strap so that it doesn't ride up too high.

Good luck.
