Getting under Beaufort NC fixed bridge

I did a few searches but looking for local and specific information about the 65-foot fixed bridge in Beaufort, NC. My mast height is 65.5-feet, does anyone know about whether it is possible to pass under with a low tide? I am finding it difficult to find out at what tide the bridge clearance is measured at and tides in the area...

Vertical bridge clearances on charts are referenced to Mean High Water (MHW)
You can find tide info on a bunch of websites... here's one:

NOAA Tides & Currents (Beaufort, NC - Station ID: 8656483)

Hope this helps

I believe this is called Gallants Channel Bridge, a new fixed bridge 65' clearance to replace the previous bascule bridge. I am finding it incredibly difficult to find information about specific bridges!

Here you go - https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/no...56451&legacy=1

BTW, you need to make your own decision, but the first station I linked to is closer to the bridge than this second one... just saying.

If it's the Gallants Channel Bridge, I went under that bridge earlier this year with Totem, a Stephens 47. Out boat is 62 feet, they had taken all their instruments down and were 64.5 feet. I don't remember there being much hesitation at the time.

That's it, completed this year, 65' clearance at MHW. Last time I went under it I don't recall there being any air draft boards so make sure you know the tide situation.

Since I live almost under the new Gallants Channel bridge and was going for a paddle I went ahead and looked. There are air boards on both sides. They read 67' at 12:30 this afternoon which was a little before low tide I believe. Looks like you'll be alright if your timing is good.

Here's one technique. It's not for everyone though.

You might want to get an I-Ball camera. Its intended for lining up trailer hitches, but you could send it up the jib or spinny halyard and see exactly how much clearance there is as you approach the bridge. Its also useful for looking into spaces you cannot otherwise see, like behind bulkheads, inside tanks, under engines, etc.

Hahyaha... I was reading down through the posts, thinking about posting that video, when, lo and behold Dave beat me to it. I've always loved this kind of "Hillbilly Smarts". At least that's what we call it in Western KY. I love this video.

Aarrrgh!
