Re: Engine-less Cruising

in a nice tight little anchorage the other day - bit tricky to sail out of but can be done. One other boat in there that day, and very entertaining it was too, watching this guy trying to get his hook up single handed and - motor - out of the bay. He almost ended up on the rocks and had the boat howling in reverse at one stage. The idea he might have had a go at sailing off - immediate disaster, i would say. In his defense, if it was me I'd have waited for the tide and maybe a bit less wind. He also showed a bit of spirit in putting up his sails pretty well as soon as he was clear. As in all things in this thread, it's not black or white, it's somewhere in between.
