Delivery Chesapeake to Grenada

We are almost ready to head out from the Chesapeake to head down to Grenada. So far it looks like Friday is the day we leave.

We are currently "trapped" in Deltaville with 30 knots blowing from the east then going to south over night.

Boat - 2012 Lagoon 450, "Kazaio" with AIS transponder.

Crew
- 2 somewhat experienced cruisers. Did Bay of Biscay, all of the Med, crossed the Atlantic, Caribbean, Bahamas, and up and down east coast of the US.
- 2 crew with nne to little sailing experience.

Our progress (Spot) can be viewed here:
SPOT Shared Page

The auto-tracking feature of the Spot will be turned on once we head offshore.

We have SSB and satelite phone for GRIB downloads. We will aslo get weather udates from Weather Commander.

The "planned" route.
Chesapeake to a position about 100-150 Nm south of Bermuda
Then turn to starboard onto a direct line to St. Martin.

Re: Delivery Chesapeake to Grenada

Hi Roetter,

I think we may have seen you under sail around Gooses Reef in the Bay on Sunday. If you aren't familiar with the area, it is more toward the eastern side of the Bay and near the mouths of the Choptank and Little Choptank rivers. We saw a Lagoon under full sail from a decent distance away while we were headed back from a weekend sail from Herring Bay to up the Severn River and back (but via the rockfish fishing grounds near where we saw you). Nice weekend for sailing out there. Fair winds on your continued journey- we've holed up in Fishing Bay there in D-ville and it is a good place to wait out the weather.

You may have opened a can of worms with the SPOT announcement. Did you not partake in the dialogue from when Boatman crossed the Atlantic not that long ago?
Here's to a safe and uneventful trip.

I followed quite a bit of the Boatman delivery. Yes, there are downsides to posting your location, but also upsides.

It also seems the Boatman voyage was very entertaining to many of us. Guess what he will be doing next and all those other questions. I hope that this trip will be somewhat less entertaining and uneventful.

Guys, try to keep the can of worms closed if you can.

No analysis of the weather pattern yet? I am so disappointed. I was hoping for a down-to-the-second optimized passing time out of the bay.

Here is a wind and wave forecast for tomorrow afternoon when we expect to get near the western edge of the Gulf Stream.

Re: Delivery Chesapeake to Grenada

I am glad to report that we arrived two days ago in Barbuda to take shelter from the strong winds, high seas, and heavy squalls that had tormented us for the last 3 days. I am glad we did a lot of "easting" early on so we were able to take the weather on the beam, instead of having to head up or divert to St. Martin or BVI.

The first leg of the trip was surprisingly easy as we lucked out with mild weather most of the way east.

We are now taking it easy completing the voyage and are planning to arrive in Grenada this weekend after a "meet-with-crusing-friends" stop in The Grenadines.
