Agreed, but if you were going to look for "contributing factors beyond sheer incompetence and/or thinking with his testicles", you might start near the bar.

Interesting. I wonder how many poppy seeds you'd have to eat to even register. Poppy seeds aren't really the source of the opium...which itself is under half the strength of processed heroin...it's the poppy fruit's "latex", the sap that leaks out of cuts to the fruit.

I know nutmeg in large doses can have some effects, but I figure as long as I can still taste the rum, I haven't ground too much into the sundowner.

Checking the depth sounder would've sufficed.

Obviously I have a different version of the Lusitania event.
Also at the moment silly games are in preparation in the region. Both subject being political they have no place in this Forum.

One might have a rock, stone, or pebble in their shoe, perhaps they mistook "shoe" for "ship" as well. Or perhaps in British English the usage differs?

Good point.
“Tourist” may mean Mickey mouse, one way of expressing his disappointment of the electronic navigation system, why?
“Ferrari” mean glamorous, not speed and burnout.
“Please” mean please understand, a polite way of telling someone that this someone has only a remote knowledge of the situation.
“Manually” may mean that it has gone from “follow the route” to “go to cursor” or “go to waypoint” or that the ship is not on autopilot any more.

There's no evidence of silly games over the Concordia. In fact Italy just sent a very experienced commander to oversea the last of the rescue. The big issue now is to decide to allow the salvage to begin while the rescue searches continue. sMIT is standing by as it has got the diesel recovery contract. The salvage contract is about to be awarded. So far everything bring done well.

Thanks…. Very good article

From this report Master was on his Cell phone chatting with his retired colleague while making such a tight maneuver right up to point of impact……

This will have consequences about banning cell phones on commercial bridges…. which I am totally in favor of
