Why would you even start to speculate about a conspiracy theory?

That's like thinking Zeitgiest was a documentary on 9/11?

Political minds work quick.
But leave this subject as is. Our moderator Lady doesn' t like this kind of issues.

A captain is responsible for the movements of his ship.

The rock has been there a while.

The rock did not hit the ship.

It's like when you take a turn too fast and hit a tree - it is pretty hard to blame the tree.

Couldn't agree more. Whatever happens with the ship it's the captain's responsiblity (excluding force maijore)

Just glad a dont work on pasasenger ships, made a concious decision many years ago not to work on ships where the cargo can talk back. Definetly not PSM

Yes but the reconstitution is suggesting that the captain initiated a
+51deg./min ROT just at the worse moment. Is this just to suit the narration? The reconstitution also suggests that the ship lost 1 kts on impact and a further 7.6 kts. A grounding speed of less than 1.5 kts will throw people out of balance.

re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

JoeDiver- I saw 20/20 as well and can confirm that the woman described the situation in the restaurant with the captain and mistress as you remember. I am not certain, but I thought someone else confirmed seeing them as well. Given the nonsense that has come from the captain so far I tend to believe the woman.

The captain claimed that the ship was being steered by the automated system at the time (again subject to a large grain of salt), but that wouldn't explain the late start to the turn. So there are still things that need clearing up. But heh, it's fun to speculate, right?

As for the fuel removal, my understanding is that the delay is due to the ongoing victim recovery operation. Apparently they feel the oil recovery is incompatible with other teams of divers on the ship, and will begin when the victim recovery efforts are finished. Now that will be a hard decision with 20 souls still missing.

re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

There is a current tape of Bos-Kalis CEO interview with Pauw-Witteman (Dutch tv reporters) where the CEO stated that they are making preparations to empty the holds of the fueloil but that the stability of the Concordia is the main factor that they did not pump out those 2500 ton.

The factor stability is the main problem faced by the salvage company as Concordia is resting on a slope, not on a flat sandbed. The boat moves, so far that is clear. By pumping out those 2500 tons it might be possible that the metacenter of the equilibrium of Concordia shifts and that mean the boat disappearing in deeper water. They are not ready yet to make a decision in that quarter.
This is the situation regarding the remaining fueloil on board Concordia.

Another point of delay is who is paying for the operation: the insurers or Costa? This point is still pending and subject to ongoing discussions.
There are other points on the agenda but I leave those for the moment.

The removing of the fueloil and search for the bodies of crew/pax are two separate actions: the one doesnot stop the other.

My question to the learned group on this forum, if main generation is down, only the top side emergency genny running, how is it the captain had enough electrical energy to use the thrusters?
That's g captain report is pure fiction in my view where that type of AIS data coming from

re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

Astrid did answer that question already: each Wartsila bowthruster has its own powerpack, i.c. powering dieselengine.
This is either hydraulic or through a gearbox - that I do not know.
