Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

I think you are missing the point. This was a TRAINING exercise. Even cops gotta learn some time :-)!

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Thanks! Very good. I counted 8 or 9 of them to "rassle" that new fangled piece of POOLICE equipment to submission.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Well, the thing that bothers me most is not the screw-ups but the fact no one caught them - if you've got four people, you can have 3 double-checkers.

Also - quick reflexes are good for police work - I would hope, if I was in the boat rolling away I would hope I'd have lowered my center of gravity - instead of remaining standing up - which as it turned out, he did not do anyway. - or, jump out of the boat while it's still rolling, on the uphill side.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

My question is how did they get the thing to the ramp to start with?
I don't think the Cop car had a hitch?

In that case where, exactly, are the training instructors? If it were a training exercise there would have been at least SOME preparation...

If that was a training exercise maybe they should have started at the beginning. Junior High Physics. Not the veggie science class. The one for the smart kids.

Morons.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Well, they didn't capsize the boat. They didn't immerse the car. And nobody's weapon got discharged. (Hey, THAT requires triplicate paperwork and an internal investigation when it happens!)

OK, they screwed up and as macho men they didn't bother using the SAFETY CHAINS that are supposed to be on all trailers to prevent that.

Bubba don't need to get past sixth grade to know that.

Wet shoes would have been the worst part of the damage, cheap lesson to learn.

Someone ought to send them a note about "Yo, buy some PFDs and WEAR THEM as an example for the little kids who never want to."

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Look, there is no hitch on the car, the wheel jack was down, I assume maybe they had a line attaching the trailer to the car?
With as many people as they had, it would have worked fine if they had just man handled the trailer.

Looks like the old "2 inch coupler on a 1 1/2 inch ball" ploy.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Aw, come on. How many rural police department training programs cover proper use of a trailer? Hell, not even the LAPD does that. And is it their fault if their commanding officer sent them out without a properly trained supervisor and flagman as well?

Although, probably the three passengers should be put on suspension for failing to cite the driver for unsafe driving, failing to properly use and secure the trailer safety chains.

Hirlarious.. that's not a training exercise, it's just an example of one mistake on another without thinking about what they were doing.

Just a couple of things re some of the other posts. Remember that CF is an International Forum, not just American. Our Australian cops are well paid now days, in fact they are paid a 'professional' catagory of wage, meaning degree compensation.

And for the past twenty years cops in this country, as in the UK, NZ and many other countries are now University trained in something prior to going into the Academies. The days of hiring buffoons are over. I know that's not the case in the US.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

No matter what, it was funny and it looks like no one was seriously hurt in the filming. Maybe physical and psychological bruises. To Reed1v, I do not recall learning anything about operating a boat that I did not already know, while I was in college. I am glad the swimmer also removed his gun by the time he removed his shirt. Actually, the incident may make the participants more understanding of human foibles.

The product of years of training, all at the taxpayer's expense. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside..
