Chesapeake to Caribbean end of April

We are leaving within the next week from Newport to St. Martin (then Grenada) on a Lagoon 450.

We expect to make about 8 knots (weather permitting - made 8.25 average crossing Atlantic Canaries to St. Lucia in December 2012).

We will have daily weather updates available.

Looking for people with experience to add their knowledge.

What should we look what?
What not to do?
Any suggestions.
