CF Goes to Hollywood?

This morning I heard about a new movie coming out "All is Lost". The story line sounds like some CF threads of late.

A single hander played by Robert Redford --- seems to dress like a CF member--- is not on deck keeping watch when a container that is filled with sneakers holes his boat.

Yes there is some artistic license even in the trailer. Think you'll get a kick out of the teaser. See / http://teaser-trailer.com/movie/all-is-lost/

Who does that guy look like??????

Looks like a good movie, from the trailer anyway, I'll go see it. R.R. usually does some pretty good stuff.

SPOILER ALERT

The boat is saved when he logs onto CF, and learns how to use an Anchor to fend off Pirates and cure Global Warming. There is also much discussion about buckets .

And at the end DOJ gets the girl .

Re: CF Goes to Hollywood?

...another typical Hollyweird movie. Liferaft but no EPIRB. Water flows in after being hit but then we see him glassing the hull. Then up he goes aloft...hmmm...that otta fix everything. Sorry I'm so negative...Hollywood never gets it right.

Already other forums offering critique. As we do
Redford Movie "All Is Lost" - SailboatOwners.com
Redford Movie "All Is Lost" - SailboatOwners.com

So they are saying that there's not much in the way of actual spoken words. Does anyone know who/what is the sound track? I'm hoping that is superb.

I will go see this! Can't not!

They almost always have to change the story line (and facts) to make it a movie that will engage most people, and we know most people don't know ship about boats. We'll just have to take those "adjustments" with a grain of salt.

My daughters and I went to Scotland - in winter (huh?) and regular tours weren't running, so we hired this guy to take is around the sights of lower Scotland.

Turned out he was president of the William Wallace Society. One of the producers of BRAVEHEART came to Scotland for three days and got lots and lots of historically accurate details from our tour guide -- and they used virtually none of it. The possibility that Wallace and the King's son's wife dallied, or even thought about it? That's one good example.

The fellow who gave us the tour was mightily ticked off that the movie was so inaccurate, but I bet all of us here enjoyed the movie.

Re: CF Goes to Hollywood?

I'm watching that "Vikings" tv series, pretty good but some things dont add up.
Like how does the Earl get to be such a self serving tyrant when his subjects are battle hardened giants standing around with swords..
It so happens history buffs hate the show, being produced by the "history" channel. For the that very reason (subjects with swords), Norse society was quite democratic and a tyrant wouldnt last a 24hrs...
But the producers want drama and intrigue thus the inaccuracies.

I'd probably be annoyed by this movie.

One of my daughters has a masters in medieval history. She specialized in Celtic history, and of course they and the Norse interacted a lot. The eseirs drove her nuts.

I enjoyed it until it got into beliefs about witchcraft -- and the writers treated the witchcraft as something that really happened. I really do understand having to invent conversations and even events that never happened unless one is making a documentary, but I call such shows "mocumentaries"

Like I said in the original post....they take artistic license.

The trailer raises a bevy of questions- why not take down the jib and use it to cover the hole? Single handed and no EPIRB? After reading another thread.... Single handed and no aviation VHF? The questions are fine fodder for what-if chat.

Not sure if bucketeer candidate or Darwin Award nominee.

Will probably wait for movie to be on Netflix----
January?

The trailer gives away the whole movie.
No need to watch it now..
