Well since NaClMonkey, et al, were hinting at the dreaded 'thread drift' (tre'd) and it's about an " 'eau' " theme, I twisted onto another franco tack: those famous Cajuns, Boudreaux and Thibodeaux (hence the faux Cajun 'accent', Mark Twain I'm not...) . If you're not familiar with them (Aussie?), Bing 'em and read a couple pages. If you don't bust a gut, I dunno... (every nationality and race/ethnicity has an analogue to them, not too PC, but WTH, eh?).
As far as horses, my kids had them (and hordes of other critters), always well treated; I just like riding them, a major PITA otherwise .

I think this thread calling a certain brand crap is just that:crap. If you were to take all new boats and put them across the ocean, some would fair well, others would not. But as boat ages they take on the character of their maintenance. You call MarkG brave for sailing this brand, others call me brave for sailing a 40yo boat. I say all are brave, if your not you sail with Holland America or you take a flight.
Why do I sail a 40 yo boat? Because I like the design and the way it behaves in a seaway. But it too could sink just as easily, if I did stupid things in adverse conditions and poorly maintained her.
In reality, storm conditions could overwhelm my boat anytime I am out on the ocean. So saying that only weaker boats sink is just crap.
BTW- I have a ERIB too, and a waterproof VHF, and a waterproof GPS in my grab bag.

Lives lost -- not sure boat related When the S hits, doesn't seem to matter. Some more than others but results r the same. Aye? Trouble. Whats the metre on trouble? You're in or you're not. Sad about bennies and jennies though. Look nice. Production nice. Thought they got over the stigma. Built stronger; better fittings. But alas…me bin mistaken.

Salty, your looking for your next boat. If your like me, I go: reputation (ie how many out there are sailing offshore), maintenance, then go over the few remaining with a fine tooth comb. Then the survey. After that, got to cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Why aren't you all chastising and chasing away anyone who questions anything at all about this? Why hasn't a fund been setup for these people? Why aren't they getting a new sewing machine in addition to that fund?
